Motive for the project is the existing landscape; generated by surface mining the existing artificial landscape is overwhelming in scale. The site for the project is located within an area in transition, bordering the open mining excavation and the surrounding natural landscape the site itself is part of a long term process of rehabilitation and restoration.
The exhibition and observation building is exploring the site with its stacked and shifted massing; the circulation of the building is a large wrap around component offering a foot path to the top of the building. Both the exhibition building and the exterior pixel park are condensing the existing surroundings and showcasing the rehabilitation process over time.
